RockvilleMusicMagazine.com reports that Absent, the documentary feature film directed by Justin Hunt and featuring METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, is available for pre-sale, starting today at this location. The film will be released on DVD September 5th.

The DVD features the full length documentary with bonus features including the Q and A sessions of Hetfield and Hunt from screenings in San Rafael, CA and Mesa, AZ. Filmmaker Justin Hunt will autograph the first 2500 DVD's sold.

According to RockvilleMusicMagazine.com: “Absent explores the devastation being caused, on a global scale, by the growing disengagement of fathers. This thought-provoking documentary digs deep into the issue of fatherlessness and the overwhelming need for change.

Virgil Hetfield attempted to reconnect with James later in his life and was filmed in a brief interview for 1992's Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica, a two part documentary about the making of the album Metallica (or The Black Album).”

Fan-filmed footage of Hetfield’s appearance at the Central Christian Church screening of the film on May 12th in Mesa, AZ can be seen below:
