The documentary by director Joshua Callis-Smith A History of a Time To Come is currently just over half way through the production process and prepping for the post production process in the coming months. The film covers the complete story of the UK thrash metal scene - its ups, its downs and its impact on the UK and global music industry.

Until now there has been no complete documentation of the movement, with bands disappearing amongst the dark recesses of the internet, shelved magazines or out-of-print CDs.

The project plans to pull together and uncover the full story of the UK thrash scene, from its roots in the mid-'80s until the present day, telling the story of dreams fulfilled, hopes dashed and the enduring memories.

Director Joshua Callis-Smith had this to say: “So far the production has gone extremely well, we’ve spoken to some excellent bands, gaining some valuable insights into the passion, energy and music that makes thrash such an exciting genre. The response so far has been unbelievable and we’ve had interest from more countries then I can count. This is a project very much for the fans and its really starting to show in the support. I can’t wait to get stuck into the post-production process now and get this film out there for everyone to see. A huge thanks to all the bands, everyone we’ve spoken to and everyone that’s helped make this possible so far, it’s really appreciated it, keep thrashing."

Along the way the filmmakers will be speaking to the bands that are and were a part of the scene, the labels behind the bands, the press reporting on the scene and everyone else who had an impact, from producers to authors.

UK music journalist Greg Moffitt (Metal Hammer, Classic Rock) is currently writing a book to accompany the film. Together, the documentary and the book will provide the definitive account of the UK thrash scene from its roots in the 1980s until the present day.

As a companion piece to the film, A History Of A Time to Come the book will expand the story, adding layers of detail and exploring in greater depth the development, decline and eventual re-emergence of UK thrash.
