CHIMAIRA Guitarist Rob Arnold On Performing With SIX FEET UNDER - "It’s Truly A Rockstar Moment For Me"
September 25, 2011, 13 years ago
CHIMAIRA guitarist Rob Arnold is featured in a new interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com. An excerpt is available below:
UG: You’re playing in SIX FEET UNDER with Kevin Talley.
Arnold: "Yep, and Matt DeVries from Chimaira is playing bass with us. I’ve been a big fan of Six Feet Under and the CANNIBAL CORPSE stuff and Chris Barnes since I was a kid and it’s truly a rockstar moment for me. I was a kid in the front row at Six Feet Under’s first tour back in ’95, ’96, and now I’m on stage playing those songs with ‘em. Whether it’s fate that brought me here or whatever, it’s just an enjoyable thing. It’s like if I were to join Metallica or something like that. It’s the experience of a band that you grew up lovin’ so much and now you’re playin’ with ‘em."
UG: Do you approach your guitar playing differently in SFU than what you bring to Chimaira?
Arnold: "In terms of the playing, it’s cool because we’re playing in C standard and I know this probably sounds crazy but I’ve never really played in a standard tuning since I was 16 years old or something like that. Even when we did the 7-strings we did drop tuning so this has opened up really a lot of new doors for me in terms of chords and voicings and things that I never really experimented with. Another great thing about the band is that my only job is to just rock! All I have to do up there is go up and play guitar where in Chimaira I’m one of the business heads and part of all the planning and everything that goes on with the whole thing so there’s a lot more stress involved. So it’s cool to get to kick back and just play guitar."
