ANATOMY OF I Frontman Posts DEATH Cover From 1996 As Tribute To Chuck Schuldiner
December 13, 2011, 12 years ago
ANATOMY OF I vocalist/guitarist Michael Dorrian has issued the following update:
"In remembrance of Chuck Schuldiner (DEATH), who passed away 10 years ago on December 13th, 2001, we celebrate the amazing amount of quality music he left behind. As a tribute, I dug up an old rehearsal tape in my parents' garage today of me playing a cover of Death's classic song, 'Lack Of Comprehension', in 1996 together with Dirk Verbeuren (SOILWORK) on drums and my buddy Ed Martin on vocals and bass. The nostalgic value of this recording is vastly higher than its actual quality, but what can you expect from a bunch of 17/18 year olds recording a rehearsal with one microphone on a boombox .May Chuck's music live on forever."
Back in November, Denmark's Power Of Metal published an interview with Dorrian. An excerpt follows:
Q: Can (debut album) Substratum be considered as an excellent heir apparent to Chuck Schuldiner's legacy or it is much more to be only defined so?
A: "Although Death was one of my main inspirations in my teens, I wouldn't say Anatomy Of I is an heir apparent to what Chuck did. I won't deny that some riffs have been (unconsciously) inspired by Death, Steve's presence also adds to that Death sound and the fact that I've asked Dirk to go crazy on the fills and breaks while keeping a high tempo beat is reminiscent of Reinert and Hoglan, but the comparison ends there. There are a lot of different elements in our music and we have a sound of our own which will only become more apparent when we'll have a few more releases under our belt."
