James has been recording since 1954. She boasts 28 studio albums and 58 singles. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008. On December 16th, 2011, it was announced that James was terminally ill with cancer.
