Was BLACK SABBATH To Headline Coachella?
January 10, 2012, 12 years ago
According to Billboard, the reunited BLACK SABBATH was one of the planned headliners for this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but was forced to pull out just before yesterday's official lineup announcement due to guitarist Tony Iommi's recent lymphoma diagnosis, multiple industry sources tell Billboard.
It's unclear which artist was added as a last-minute replacement for Coachella, which will be held for the first time over two weekends (April 13-15, April 20-22) in Indio, California.
According to a press release, Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan - the 'Iron Man' of rock & roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery. This comes as Black Sabbath - Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums) - are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony.
