Though KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, ALL THAT REMAINS and ATREYU were already sailing the tumultuous Gothenburg-meets-hardcore waters in which As I Lay Dying had fully immersed (drowned?), Frail Words Collapse propelled As I Lay Dying into mainstream territory, this San Diego group eventually hitting Billboard’s Top 5 and ensuring that Frail Words Collapse’s apex, ‘94 Hours’, would become tangled in lore, mystique, metal-or-not? controversy and, eventually, nostalgia.
