MYLES KENNEDY Discusses Working With SLASH, ALTER BRIDGE And Forthcoming Solo Album In New Interview
May 2, 2012, 12 years ago
Vocalist Myles Kennedy (ALTER BRIDGE, SLASH) is featured in a new interview with Niclas Müller-Hansen at Sweden's Metalshrine. An excerpt is available below:
Q: Tell me about the new Slash album? How many songs were actually written since there´s a bunch of different bonus tracks?
MK: "Yeah, I´ trying to remember… I think the total written might hover around 18 or something in that area and then I think we ended up recording 15 of them. I believe so."
Q: How did you work? Was it you and Slash doing the most of it or was it a group effort?
MK: "As far as the writing goes, Slash and I wrote the songs and brought the songs to Todd and Brent and started arranging them as a band and they were very helpful in that respect, as was Eric Valentine the producer. There were different stages that helped us achieve our goal."
Q: Since you´ve got Alter Bridge and Slash and your solo album, when you write songs, do you always set out thinking “Well, this is for Alter Bridge!” ? Do you write for a specific album or do you just write regularly during the year?
MK: "For me it´s kinda a regular thing and it´s like I´m always sitting around with guitars and having something come up and then you record it real quickly and I can usually tell where it would fit best. Like it would be something leaning more towards a solo record at one point or for Alter Bridge. You kinda learn that everything will find its place eventually just through your own instincts."

Back in March, one very excited Dave Gleeson at Australia's Triple M recently caught up with guitarist Slash and Kennedy to talk about Slash's new solo album, Apocalyptic Love, living with a wife that's crazier than him and when he's going back to Oz for a proper tour. Slash began by telling Gleeson the convenience of the internet made the process of making the album easier:
"I'm not a big tech guy but you can get a lot of great stuff going by just sending an idea here or there," said Slash who co-wrote a lot of the album with Myles while the singer was touring with Alter Bridge. But he made it clear the whole 'working remotely' thing wasn't a replacement for the magic of jamming in the studio. "You shouldn't make a record that way. It's just for sharing ideas. We'd start off that way and then we'd get together in a room and hatch everything out."Slash will release Apocalyptic Love in North America on May 22nd with the following tracklisting:
'Apocalyptic Love'
'One Last Thrill"
'Standing In The Sun'
'You’re A Lie'
'No More Heroes'
'Halo'
'We Will Roam'
'Anastasia'
'Not For Me'
'Bad Rain'
'Hard & Fast'
'Far And Away'
'Shots Fired'
