MÖTLEY CRÜE’s Vince Neil, LEE AARON To Perform At Slave Lake Benefit Concert

According to Calgaryherald.com, nearly a year after a wildfire devastated Slave Lake, Alberta, a two-day Home Sweet Home concert is bringing MÖTLEY CRÜE’s Vince Neil, LEE AARON, EMERSON DRIVE and other acts to the northern town this weekend, just days before the anniversary of the massive blaze.
It’s a sequel of sorts to last year’s Concert of Hope, both events organized by Ian Cameron and Shane Knutson. The two locals met in a shelter after they were evacuated from their homes. Officials believe the May 2011 wildfire was deliberately set, causing damages in the $700-million range and destroying roughly a third of the town. Knutson calls Home Sweet Home a “big group hug.”
“It just gives a big thank you to all the supporters in the last year,” Emerson Drive’s singer Brad Mates explains on the phone from Tennessee. The band originated in Grande Prairie, 320 km west of Slave Lake.“Growing up, the forest fires worked through the mountains over the years,” says the musician. He notes how we’re at nature’s whim. “Down here in Nashville I have to shake my head and watch people drive through an inch of snow and it’s the end of the world. Back home it’s -40 and three feet of snow before the buses would shut down for school.
“It builds a person’s character coming from that part of the country. You end up being a well-rounded person. That’s Alberta.”
