DEF LEPPARD's Rick Allen Discusses Fine Art Collection - "It's A Very Personal Thing For Me"
May 25, 2012, 12 years ago
In a new interview with Hit The Floor, DEF LEPPARD's Rick Allen talks about his art release at RickAllenArt.com, as well as what inspires him, his excitement for the upcoming Def Leppard tour, and why he's not allowed to try downhill skiing. An excerpt follows:
Q: So you’ve released some artwork this year, tell us a bit about your work and what you do.
A: "Yes certainly, instead of using paint brushes I used light sticks and through long exposure photography we were able to capture the entire performance, bringing the hidden world into this world. And then when I reviewed them it was really profound that I reflected parts of myself that I’m really passionate about. It’s a very personal thing for me. The fact that I was able to express myself in a different way other than through music, y’know I was actually quite fearful about it at the beginning and I wasn’t quite sure how people would perceive it but people have really received it in a wonderful way so I’m really excited to be in this. And working with seeing four the company that approached me about this project has been a really nice experience so I’m really pleased with how it’s going."

Allen recently unveiled his entire fine art collection dubbed Electric Hand: Rhythm + Change at this location.
In a new update Allen says: "Over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to share some insight into many of my art pieces with you! Of course, you can visit RickAllenArt.com to see all of them now! Today, I'd like to show Templar to you. The Templar inspires me because of his devotion. It is actually a rather special piece in the collection because it is the only one that features two different drum performances combined into one! Only 50 of these exist and I've numbered and signed each one of them for you. You can even request a specific number when you order if it has special meaning to you and hasn't gone to someone else yet. Please let me know what you think - I love hearing your comments on these pieces. And please do let me know if you get one for your own home! I especially love knowing where they are going!"
