Joe Hottinger, guitarist for Pennsylvania-based HALESTORM, recently spoke with PennLive.com about the band's rise to success. An excerpt from the story is available below:

Hottinger, who played with bands in his hometown of West Chester and in Virginia, found his way into an audition with Lzzy and Arejay Hale of Red Lion in 2003. He said that they were all “just running in different circles” back then.

“It’s nice to join teams because it’s a struggle,” Hottinger said with a laugh. “You don’t know until you’re in the thick of it.”

This summer, the band will spend three straight months together when it takes a world tour, take a month off and then hit the road again for the entire fall. The group is known for its gritty sounds as it is for its frontwoman.

“If you haven’t seen Lzzy live, you haven’t seen it,” Hottinger said. “Her presence onstage, I have to watch it in videos to actually see what she’s doing up there. She kills it.”
“To this day, we truly treat the band as number one for us. It’s like an overgrown monster baby now. We still feed it and want it to do well.”
