SLAYER's Kerry King Says It's Still Unknown If Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Will Be Able To Perform Solos On New Album
July 6, 2012, 12 years ago
In a new interview with RollingStone.com, SLAYER's Kerry King talks about recording the band's new album, which he hopes to have finished by September and ready for an early 2013 release.
So far, the band has been working without guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who is still recovering from a devastating attack of flesh-eating necrotizing fasciitis on his right arm, believed to be caused by a spider bite.
Hanneman wasn't at the recent recording sessions. But King explained that he typically records all the basic guitar parts himself anyway, even on songs written by Hanneman, before bringing the other guitarist in to perform his leads. "I do a lot of the bass, too," said King. It's still unknown if Hanneman will be able to return in time to perform solos on the new Slayer album.

107.7 The Bone caught up with Kerry King for an interview on The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival 2012.
During the interview, when asked about Slayer's future, King responds: "Well, we've got two songs recorded, that keeps getting flown around like, maybe it's going to be an EP, maybe it isn't. I'd just assume wait for the record to get done, and after Mayhem I think the plan is August/September finish the record. Unlike the rest of the modern world, when you do a record, it still takes three months from the minute you hand it in... that being said, if it's done in September, it's not gonna come out in December - it'll probably be out in January."
