World-renowned Cleveland-based artist Derek Hess will be making a special two-hour guest DJ appearance on tonight's WJCU Metal On Metal show at 10:00 PM EST.

You can listen to the show, now in its 30th year, live at 88.7 FM in the Cleveland, Ohio area or stream it live worldwide at WJCU.org from 6:30 PM to 12:00 AM EST.

Hess has a long history in the city of Cleveland, not only in the art world, but also in the rock world. His first concert was in 1977, QUEEN's News Of The World tour, and he never looked back.

"In the '80s, it was METALLICA's Kill 'Em All, SLAYER's Haunting the Chapel, CRO-MAGS's Age Of Quarrel, OZZY OSBOURNE's Blizzard Of Oz and so on", says Hess. "In the '90s I became the talent buyer of the Euclid Tavern, among mopping the floors, chopping the chicken wings, and working the door. The format was changed and heavy music began to make that venue it's home under my control. Bands like HELMET, THE JESUS LIZARD and COP SHOOT COP became regulars."

During this time, Hess' concert fliers became posters and attracted the attention from the music and art worlds, both nationally and internationally. Some of these posters are in the permanent collection of the Louvre in Paris and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland among other places.

The art history with Hess continued by creating music festivals (HessFest) that featured both bands and art galleries, to art shows globally. In addition to posters for bands such as PANTERA, PINK FLOYD and PEARL JAM, Hess has also created CD covers for bands like SEPULTURA, IN FLAMES and UNEARTH to name a few. He has been featured on television shows and in magazines - MTV, Fuse, VH1, Alternative Press and Juxtapose - owns his own clothing line, published books, etc. There's much more to his resume, and pages could be written, but what matters right now is it all comes to a head tonight. Hess will be playing music that has influenced him or he just likes form the 1970s until yesterday. His dog Jose, a pomeranian mix who travels everywhere with him, will be by his side.

"Jose will be on the air with me and running the halls of John Carroll University chasing the freshman girls, like he always does when I guest DJ at WJCU", adds Hess. "Jose is the pimp of the nation. Before he decided to start hanging out with me some 13 years ago, Jose lived in the Himalyas. His breed is technically an Arabian Snow Hound, and they were bred to chase the Yeti's away from the garbage at night. He is the big man on campus and the ladies love him. So watch out John Carroll University. Jose is coming to chase your women and drink your beer...and play KROKUS!"
