As previously reported, Megadeth and Megadeth.com hold an annual Christmas Card contest where the top ten winners all win a prize, and the first place winner receives a phone call on Christmas Day from Dave Mustaine, along with other prizes. The band's webmaster has checked in with the following update:
"After an overwhelming consensus, and although some said give the guy a break, it has been decided that the second place winner in our 2012 Christmas Card contest should be awarded first place. It is now 100% clear to us that the previously announced winner used another person's artwork.Using someone else's work is like having someone else run your race for you, just not cool! Dave Mustaine was disappointed but looks forward to talking to our official contest winner, Patrick Dubas!
See the revised Top 10 winners list here."
The new winning entry can be viewed below:
According to a previous post from the Megadeth camp, "this year, our winner Jim Chadoulas allegedly submitted the artwork of another artist. Although we were notified of the possible plagiarism by an anonymous fan in Brazil after the Christmas Day call was already placed, we are investigating this matter further. We stand by the fact that Jim is innocent until proven guilty, and if our winner did indeed use someone else's artwork, we will be notifying the second place winner to award him the first place prize and he will receive a phone call from Dave Mustaine. We hope to clear this up as quick as possible. What do you think?"
