MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson checks in with the following update from Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California, where the band are recording their upcoming 14th studio album:

"Having a great week here at Vic's Garage laying down bass on the new songs. Really some great, great songs taking shape at this point in the recording process. I told Dave (Mustaine) today that one of them totally reminded me of the earliest stuff back when we first met. Fast, rippin' and fully bringing the REAL old-school Megadeth sound!!! To be continued..."

Megadeth checked in last night with news that they had tracked 11 songs for the upcoming, as yet untitled album, which is being produced by Johnny K (aka John Karkazis; MACHINE HEAD, DISTURBED), and is expected later this year via a label to be announced.

In the footage below, Dave Mustaine talks to Vintage Rock's Junkman during Media Day at the 2013 NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, where he premiered his new Dean double-neck guitar.

Discussing the band's label situation after parting ways with Roadrunner Records, Mustaine states: "We're with a great new label. We're doing a press release about it soon. I can't say who it is... I'd love to tell you who it is. We're not with Roadrunner anymore. That was some good years for us there, and we really look back with great fondness on our times with Roadrunner. But the excitement level for us right now is just insane."
