SOUNDGARDEN have filmed a video for their King Animal album track, 'By Crooked Steps', with Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS, NIRVANA) at the helm, which depicts the Crooked Steps gang cruising around the tough streets of LA, reeking havoc on the DJ scene.

Grohl said about approaching the band to direct the video, “I had an idea. I got a copy of the record and the third song ‘By Crooked Steps’ was a signature, instantly recognizable Soundgarden song, and the rest was history."

In honour of our killer Soundgarden axe giveaway, the staff at BraveWords figured we’d pull out our old flannels and celebrate the Ten Greatest Soundgarden Riffs Of All Time.

Yes indeed, good ol’ swami of sound Kim Thayil has taken his slide rule to metal and calculated some beauties over the years, some of which the outshining old-timer has placed upon the band’s choice new album King Animal. Without further adieu, let’s shake the rusty cage and see which riffs of Kim’s snarl back.

10) ‘By Crooked Steps’ (King Animal, 2012)

Simple enough (two notes?!) but admit it, this is the catchiest thing on King Animal, drilling into the head, and then getting sagely complex for... whatever you call that, a break, a pause to ponder. Also cool that it’s in 5/4, and then buttressed with textures, almost like the guys knew it was simple enough to support adornment.
