ROB ZOMBIE will write, direct and produce Broad Street Bullies, a film about the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team that evolved from a cellar-dwelling expansion team into a team that racked up victories and penalty minutes in equal measure during the 1970s.

Zombie, known for his head-banging music before transitioning to genre films like House Of 1000 Corpses and Halloween, is making a departure with this film, sort of, because the Flyers’ brutal style of play is genre-worthy and has the makings for a hockey film on the order of the 1977 sports film classic Slap Shot.

Rob Zombie visited the Flyers last night to watch a game and catch up with some of the notorious ‘Broad Street Bullies‘, who are the subject of his forthcoming movie. While watching the game, Rob spoke to Philly.com and NHL about the project, where he is with the script, what attracted him to the film and more.

In related news, a new official trailer has been released for Rob Zombie's upcoming film, The Lords Of Salem, which will hit theaters in North America on April 19th.

From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood. The Lords Of Salem tells the tale of Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, who receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a “gift from the Lords”. Heidi listens, and the bizarre sounds within the grooves immediately trigger flashbacks of the town’s violent past.

Two official trailers can now be seen below:

Rob Zombie has also teamed up with multiple-award-winning horror author B.K. Evenson to pen the official movie tie-in book for the film, which will be released on March 12th and promises to plunge readers into a nightmarish world where the sins of Salem are paid for in today’s blood.

Zombie says “The book offers a different experience from the film since it can obviously go into much more detail. The book and the film really complement each other.”

The book will be published by Grand Central Publishing and their executive editor Ben Greenberg is excited about the release too; “As a horror junkie and a fan of Rob’s work, I am thrilled that GCP will be publishing this novel,” said Greenberg. “The Lords Of Salem is Rob’s first original horror story since the great The Devil's Rejects, and it delivers exactly what his fans have been waiting for.”
