Ex-PENTAGRAM, PLACE OF SKULLS Guitarist Victor Griffin - "Bobby Liebling And I Will Always Be Friends"
March 1, 2013, 11 years ago
Ex-PENTAGRAM, PLACE OF SKULLS guitarist Victor Griffin was recently interviewed by Dutch 'zine Lords Of Metal, and discussed his departure from Pentragram and the formation of his new band, IN-GRAVED. An excerpt follows:
Q: Good to see you back with a new band. I guess it was time for something new. I guess what most people would like to know is what happened with Pentagram, with whom you've been working once again the last couple of years. Same goes for Place Of Skulls, which has been a huge part of your musical legacy as well?
A: "It just came time to move on from Pentragram. The fans have been great and I appreciate the opportunities and support we were given, but the past year or so had started to feel a bit artistically empty and redundant in a way. I have other things I want to do musically, and simply playing the same songs I wrote and played some 25 or 30 years ago wasnt doing it for me anymore. Bobby (Liebling) and I will always be friends, and it was great playing with Greg (Turley) and Sean (Saley). I really just came back temporarily at first to give Bobby some support, but it just happened to turn into a couple of years. Place Of Skulls had been in sort of a fractured state for quite a while with all the member changes. After the As A Dog Returns album came out, and we toured a little for that, my drummer Tim (Tomaselli) quit and we replaced him again with Pete Campbell. Then we toured a bit more and my bass player quit again, so I figured it's time to let this thing dissolve. No big announcement or final show or anything like that. Just let it go so that's what I did."
