25 years ago today, on May 24th, 1988, VAN HALEN’s 8th album, OU812 (pronounced Oh You Ate One Too), was released. The album was the second to feature SAMMY HAGAR as lead singer. The #1 album would go on to sell 4.5 million copies.

Below you can hear a newly surfaced interview with Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony, from the tail end of the OU812 tour. The interview starts out with just Michael, and Eddie soon arrives and tells all about his past battles to get away from having to do cover versions, the shock of losing DAVID LEE ROTH, his own evolution as a guitarist, winning the battle with alcoholism, OU812, and much more. The interview was conducted by Osamu Masui on January 23rd, 1989, at the Tokyu Capitol Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. Steve Harris interpreted.
