Today (May 29th) is the 30th anniversary of the famous US Festival at Glen Helen Regional Park near Devore, San Bernardino, California. Spearheaded by Apple Computer co-founder Steve Wozniak, the US Festival intended to be a celebration of technology and culture, with a temporary stage and open-air venue paid for by Wozniak himself just for the purposes of the festival. The event featured Heavy Metal Day on on May 29, 1983 with the following stellar line-up: MÖTLEY CRÜE, QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE, JUDAS PRIEST, TRIUMPH, SCORPIONS and VAN HALEN.

"It was the day new wave died and rock n' roll took over," Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil said regarding the overwhelming attendance on Heavy Metal Day, which set the single-day concert attendance record for the US with an estimated 375,000 people.

Quiet Riot's Franke Banali remembers the moment: "30 years ago today on May 29, 1983 Quiet Riot performed at the US Festival on the Heavy Metal day and that day proved to be a life changing experience for Quiet Riot which I still feel today. So take a trip down memory and bang your head with Quiet Riot! Rest in peace the great Kevin Dubrow."
