Peppi Marchello, singer for Long Island, New York-based rockers THE GOOD RATS has passed away. Although the cause of death is still unknown, the last few months Marchello faced serious heart issues and he was back into the hospital recently, according to Rockpages.gr. The Good Rats were underground heroes and poised to be "the next big thing," yet fate had other plans. Formed in 1964, the five-piece released their self-titled debut in 1969. The band's discography includes 13 albums including their most popular, 1974's Tasty. The Good Rats were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall Of Fame in 2008.

Fellow Long Islanders TWISTED SISTER grew up in the same club scene and have issued the following statement:

"We mourn the passing of Peppi Marchello of The Good Rats, an old friend and legendary frontman for one of Long Island's greatest bands. His genius will live on through the incredible music he helped create. Peppi's vocal styling was a special gift that his fans will always cherish. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his bandmates."
