METAL MIKE CHLASCIAK Recaps Metal Camp - Mayhem In The Mountains
August 29, 2013, 11 years ago
Guitarist METAL MIKE CHLASCIAK checked in after finishing this year’s installment of Metal Camp with the following recap:
“Well, the Metal Camp is over and what an amazing time! We had several dozen metalheads from all over the US go deep, apply and jam out tracks by PANTERA, VENOM, HALFORD, MOTLEY CRUE, PAINMUSEUM, SLAYER, SKID ROW, CELTIC FROST and others. What could be better?I really had a great time this year and to see parents supporting their kids’ passion for heavy metal is really something I can stand behind.
Students also took part in specialized workshops themed in inspiration, stage performance, music business and band inner workings. I was psyched to lead a very special guitar clinic featuring music from my new release The Metalworker during one of the evenings, which was followed by an intense Q & A. Plenty of T-shirts featuring bands such as DEATH, MERCYFUL FATE, METALLICA, AMON AMARTH and MAYHEM among many others populated the camp’s grounds. It was awesome.
I can’t wait for next year. Sincere thanks to all the students, parents, teachers, Camp Lakota and of course School Of Rock .”
Developed for young metal heads in the age group of 12-18, The Metal Camp provided kids with intense, but fun instruction in heavy metal coupled with activities such as zip lines, group workshops and night time fires on the lake. This year’s edition of the camp took place August 18-24 at Camp Lakota in the NY’s Catskills Mountains .
The crescendo of the night took place on the last day when the students performed with Mike during a live concert staged at the camp’s playground.
School Of Rock ’s VP of Marketing, Mark Biondi commented on the camp: “School of Rock has always viewed metal as an incredible art form. We believe that it is one of the most challenging genres of Rock and Roll and we have used metal in our curriculum to teach technique and theory for over a decade. We decided to hold a destination camp because the metal community is very strong in our local schools and we wanted to provide a way to connect this community worldwide to share in an amazing learning experience. Metal Mike has been a great ambassador to the metal community. He is an amazing teacher, values education and the preservation of Metal, and is an all around bad-ass guitar player. Through some of the camps and workshops he has done locally at school of rock, he has had a great impact on our students. We are thrilled to work with him.”
