In celebration of MOTÖRHEAD’s cannonating new slab Aftershock, BraveWords has decided to serve up a primer and reminder as to the 20 most shocking events in the life of Lem and Co! Conflate them, debate them... we’re presenting them in countdown form, until the day of quake, namely the record’s release date, October 22nd. So read on and soak in all the gruesome glory and historical heavy metal!
#16 - Motörhead return with their eleventh and shockingly brilliant Bastards album in November of 1993. No one expected it after the anaemic major label years (indeed, the album would be the most independent of the band’s career, appearing on ZYX Records). One could conjecture, but the firepower on display may stem from the fact that Bastards is only one of two albums to feature the lineup of Lemmy, Wurzel, Phil and Mikkey. Although the focus track was 'Born To Raise Hell' (featuring ICE-T and UGLY KID JOE's Whitfield Crane), the depth of Bastards is astonishing with the likes of 'Death Or Glory', 'I Am The Sword' and the punishing 'Burner', alongside the startling child abuse song 'Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me' and the melodic meanderings of closer 'Devils'.
#20 - Motörhead's "dirty, biker-mad, speed-freaked" debut album.
#19 - No Sleep 'til you own this album!
#18 - HAWKWIND Gives Lemmy the boot and Motörhead is born.
#17 - 'Metal On Metal' meets Motörhead?
#16 - Die you bastards!
