Metal Injection scored the exclusive first interview with new SUICIDE SILENCE vocalist Eddie Hermida. In this new interview, Eddie opens up about how he ended up joining the band, his reasons for departing ALL SHALL PERISH and what the band is currently up to.

On how he joined the band:

“At first their manager contacted me and said, ‘Hey Ed, the guys are thinking about picking themselves up and would like to hear what someone else sounds like on a previously recorded track.’ They said it was more for the reference than anything else. After I recorded the ‘You Only Live Once’ track they liked it so much that we started exploring ways to make something work.

On leaving All Shall Perish:

“The full-time aspect for Suicide Silence was always part of the deal. Just know that I did everything in my power to stay in All Shall Perish and work both projects. The ASP boys will say that I quit when I decided to take the reins in SS. I will say that I was asked to step away by my band mates because they didn't want my schedule with SS to interfere with their future. Either way All Shall Perish has my heart and soul built into it and I will always support the work we did together.”

Suicide Silence announced the addition of Hermida on October 4th.

The band said this about his addition: “Many of you may be familiar with Eddie through his work with All Shall Perish. For those of you unfamiliar, our relationship with Eddie goes way back to the Spreading Disease Tour, our first US headlining run, in 2006. Mitch and Eddie remained long-time friends and we felt that if the band were to continue it should be with someone Mitch knew personally and respected as both a friend and an artist. We've chosen Eddie as our new frontman in association with this long-standing relationship and countless other attributes from his quality of character to his dynamic vocal abilities that make him the absolute best fit for this band.

We hope you all will embrace this decision with open arms understanding that this is what Mitch would have wanted. He would want his brothers to stick together and carry forward what he helped create. Every time we step on stage it will be in his honor and for his legacy. Suicide Silence will continue."

Suicide Silence vocalist Mitch Lucker passed away on November 1st, 2012, due to injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident.
