Former UFO bassist Pete Way recently revealed in an interview with Classic Rock that he is suffering from prostate cancer.

An update from Pete states: "Thanks everyone for your amazing support. I am absolutely knocked out by your kind words, best wishes and prayers for recovery and no longer feel I am fighting this thing on my own. I'm not the sort of man who cries but I must admit to shedding a tear when I read your kind words. I am truly blessed to have such great fans and I appreciate each and every one of you. Can't wait to kick this and get back on the road to support the new album. Love ya!"

“I’m lucky,” said Way, 62 in his revealing interveiw. “This is prostate cancer. It’s not lung cancer. It’s not pancreatic cancer. If you’re going to get cancer, this is the best one you can have – and they caught it early.”

The cancer was spotted by accident, Pete revealed. Doctors were far more concerned about the state of his battered liver, enlarged by hepatitis and years of abuse. Routine liver scans picked up the tumour on his prostate.

A previous Facebook update from Pete states: "It'll take more than cancer to stop me but it does mean I will have to postpone the release of the album until early in the new year while I am having treatment. I'll update my pages regulary so my friends and fans will know how I am doing. Thanks everyone for your good wishes. They are much appreciated."

Stay tuned for updates.
