BLACK SABBATH were honored with the Grammy in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category during the pre-telecast ceremony at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, which is being held tonight (Sunday, January 26th) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The metal godfathers were nominated for the track 'God Is Dead?', from their semi-reunion album 13.
Black Sabbath didn't accept the award at the ceremony as they were preparing to be one of the presenters during the main event. CYNDI LAUPER - who co-hosted the pre-telecast - said that she spoke to them prior to the event and that they were grateful for the award. "I know that Ozzy is not here and I saw them last night. They asked me to accept this award for them. It's awesome. And I'm sure he thanks the Academy. They had to be next door to do something. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everybody."
METALLICA, LED ZEPPELIN, ANTHRAX, VOLBEAT and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are also among the nominees for the 56th annual Grammy Awards.
The nominees in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category also included:
ANTHRAX - 'T.N.T.'
DREAM THEATER - 'The Enemy Inside'
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE - 'In Due Time'
VOLBEAT feat. King Diamond - 'Room 24'
