Metal Down Under Documentary To Be Completed In April

hot flashes news

Metal Down Under is the first documentary to fully examine the history of heavy metal music in Australia.

Director Nick Calpakdjian just completed a two-week shoot which saw the Metal Down Under team travel to Perth, Melbourne, Hobart, Wollongong, Sydney and Adelaide. Amongst those interviewed included Lord Tim (LORD), Mat Maurer (MORTAL SIN), Matt Young (KING PARROT), Phil Gresik (MASS CONFUSION), Robyn Doreian (HOT METAL), Steve Watts (MANTICORE), Lochlan Watt (THE RACKET), and a bunch more.

According to a press release, "Nick is now back in the editing suite sorting through another 15 hours of great interview material and getting ready to finish the film. He's also securing the last of the archival material and having a few moments in the film animated - one scene in particular sees the guys from NOTHING SACRED take over a radio station in the late '80's to spin their new record.

In what is surely welcome news to Aussie metal fans, the film will no longer to be a feature length. It will be packaged as three one-hour episodes. There is just too much good material and worthy stories to make it any shorter.

The film is still on track for an April completion and so we can get everyone their DVD pre-orders, digital downloads and membership packs out as promised. As always, the team are still trying to raise funds to complete the film. The money is for the usage rights of archive material owned by the ABC, SBS and a few other production companies that have covered some great metal moments in the past. They also need some funds for the sound mix and colour grade to make sure the film is up to spec for a possible television release. So these last few months will be the last chance to get yourself a membership (you can upgrade if you've already pre-ordered the DVD, bought a t-shirt etc) and get your name in the credits."
