ANVIL Ultimate Revenge!

Legendary Canuck thrashers ANVIL have regained the rights to their early recordings, Hard ?N? Heavy (1981), Metal On Metal (1982), Forged In Fire (1983) and Backwaxed (1985), due to the bankruptcy of Song Entertainment Corp. on May 4th. Song was home to Attic Records who was home to Anvil, albeit an unhappy home according to frontman Lips: ?Anvil has out lasted so many things but this is one thing I didn't expect at all. When we signed this contract in 1980 it was for life! At the time we had no choice as it was the only deal around. Attic did everything in it's power to not sell our CD's to US distributors, ultimately choking the life out of the band. However we persevered and found other deals to continue. Even when labels were interested Attic refused to do anything about it. I really don't know why, it was in their best interest. Our contract was worded so that we were fucked out of royalties and mechanical rights. They claimed there was a red line of expenses to pay off out of our cut. They paid the debt off a penny a year so they would never have to pay anything to the band. What comes around goes around. Farewell to one of Canada's largest independent labels or should I say good riddance?
