MIDNIGHT's Athenar To Guest On WJCU's Metal On Metal Tonight
May 9, 2014, 10 years ago
Midnight mastermind Athenar will guest on WJCU's Metal On Metal radio program tonight (Friday, May 9th) at 7:30 PM, EST. Athenar will world premiere tracks from the forthcoming new Midnight album, No Mercy For Mayhem, set for release on August 19th via Hells Headbangers Records.
Metal On Metal, hosted by Bill Peters, can be heard live every Friday from 6:30 - 9:30 PM, EST at 88.7 FM in the Cleveland area or streamed worldwide via the Internet at WJCU.org.
No Mercy For Mayhem is the long-awaited follow-up to Midnight’s 2011 Satanic Royalty debut. The new album was recorded and mixed once again by Dave Johnson (Soulless) at his Bad Back Studios in Cleveland. Mastering was done by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.
As with all Midnight recordings, Athenar performs all the vocals and instruments (guitar, bass, drums) in the studio.
"In my opinion, Satanic Royalty goes down in history as one of the best heavy metal albums ever released from Cleveland", says Peters. "The album literally rips your head off from start to finish. Great catchy songs and excellent recording production by Dave Johnson. A true metal masterpiece in every sense of the word. Athenar has kept the new album under wraps aside from the one song released last year. I am really looking forward to hearing it for the first time tonight with my listeners. All Hail Hell!"The opening song on No Mercy For Mayhem, “Evil Like A Knife”, was released on the Hells Headbangers compilation Vol. 6 last year (click here for free download).
A demented burst of first-wave black metal over 30 years too late but no less ripping and unholy, Midnight rapes your ears with a combination of sordid blasphemy and perverted glam metal. The band's sound has been compared to Venom, Hellhammer, Bathory and Motörhead rising out of the NWOBHM grave and shaking the cobwebs loose for another gloriously dirty, catchy spell of punky black metal.
Midnight has enjoyed international success in the metal underground. In addition to touring in the US, the band has taken their controversial stage show through Europe, South America, Canada, Australia, Dubai, Mexico and Japan and released several internationally distributed albums, EPs and singles over the past decade.
Midnight is:
Athenar - Vocals/Bass
Commandor Vanik – Guitar
SS – Drums
