Legendary Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler was interviewed by Digitalproductionme.com recently. Here are a few excerpts from the chat:

Digitalproductionme.com: What's your favourite of Black Sabbath's albums?

Butler: "Hmm – probably the Paranoid album. I think it was just the complete album and we sort of knew what we were doing, we knew that the first album was a success so the Paranoid one was made with a lot of relief, people believed in us and it was just really good times…"

Digitalproductionme.com: How does Sabbath work in terms of songwriting? Is it a collab effort or does most of the writing fall to one person?

Butler: "Usually Tony comes up with a riff, and then we all get together. For the last album 13, Tony had about 40 riffs that he played for all of us and we picked out ones that we all liked from there as a band, and then went from there. Ozzy will come up with the vocal line and I’ll write the lyrics."

Digitalproductionme.com: In the years you’ve been together you must have seen a lot of changes in concert and stage technology. How important has the advancement in sound technology been to the band’s type of music?

Butler: "Well, we’ve never let technology divert from running a band, I mean we started off as club band so as long as the stage man is good – it’s up to the front of house. But these days yeah, the technology is incredibly good, in the old days you wouldn’t even have a front of house speaker system – you’d just get on the stage and play, you might have a tiny PA and stuff but today there’s endless sound checks, the quality of the equipment is excellent and I'd say it just makes it all a lot more reliable."
