May 14, 2014, 10 years ago
Aerosmith canceled tonight's concert appearance in Istanbul after Turkey declared a three-day mourning for the victims of Tuesday's coal mine disaster in Soma.
“I woke up this morning to the horrific news of the mining disaster in Soma,” Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler said in a written statement issued on Wednesday afternoon by the concert's organizers, the entertainment companies BKM and MAP.
“My heartfelt prayers go out to those who have died, those who are still trapped and their families. We are holding the people of Turkey close to our hearts and respecting the three days of mourning for a saddened nation,” Tyler said in the statement.
The band's guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer also expressed sorrow for the 245 miners who died in the disaster.
