As reported in late 2005, Dir En Grey made their European debut with their latest album, Withering To Death, issued through the German label Gan Shin.
Spearheading what is known as the Visual Kei movement - a glam image originally started by X-JAPAN back in the late '80s - Dir En Grey garnered serious interest outside Japan when they played to 3,600 people at the Columbiahalle in Berlin, Germany last summer without the benefit of domestically released albums or a serious promotional campaign.
Musically, the band is best described as a cross between X-Japan, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, SLIPKNOT and NINE INCH NAILS.
The track list for Withering To Death is as follows: 'Merciless Cult', 'C', 'Saku', 'Kodoku Ni Shisu, Yueni Kodoku', 'Itoshisa Ha Fuhai Nitsuki', 'Jesus Christ R'n'R', 'Garbage', 'Machiavellism', 'Dead Tree', 'The Final', 'Beautiful Dirt', 'Spilled Milk', 'Hegeki Ha Mabuta Wo Oroshita Yasashiki Utsu', 'Kodou'.
The album also features a video clip for 'Saku' and a booklet with translation of the Japanese lyrics into English and German.
