ALICE COOPER Guitarist KERI KELLI In Q&A Session
November 20, 2006, 18 years ago
Guitarist KERI KELLI (ALICE COOPER, ex-SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, ADLER'S APPETITE) has answered the following questions for BW&BK; scribe Mitch Lafon:
Q: How did you get the gig with Alice Cooper?
A: "I had known all those cats from about 5/6 years back and Brian Nelson just called me up one day when they needed someone."
Q: How is it, touring with Alice Cooper?
A: "I gotta tell you, it is really fantastic. i attribute it to the top notch organization that is Alice Cooper. He has a totally pro team on every level, so it makes those long month of not being home very bearable and enjoyable."
Q: Were you a fan of Cooper, growing up?
A: "I knew the big songs from the 70's, as my parents were rock music fans. I also saw Coop myself in '86 or '87 at Long Beach Arena... it was killer!"
Q: You've played with a lot of bands before Alice Cooper, how does this compare?
A: "It just seems to run a little smoother. everybody from the band to the crew are all brothers out here. Everybody looks out and helps each other, so it feels like a family. A family of 25! I really try to make the best of every project I find myself in and really have never had any "Nightmarish" situations... Well there was that one time, But... AH, Forget it!"
Q: Tell me about your experiences touring with Cooper?
A: "See above."
Q: You've been writing for the new Cooper album.... how's that going? What are the songs sounding like? How exciting is it knowing that you'll be on a Cooper album?
A: "The writing is going great! We have something like 15 things together at the moment and are working up more. The tunes have a wide range of vibes.... Fast, Slow, Heavy, Soft, Major and Minor sounding pieces... Obviously at this point there's no telling what will actually be on the CD, but we've got a great start! Cutting the CD is gonna be awesome really. I think what's going to make it such a great experience AND CD, is we all are friends and have a great time playing together. That alone will make the process flow nicely... No friction, just working together to bring the best CD we can!"
Q: Tell me about your other project, SAINTS OF THE UNDERGROUND [formerly ANGEL CITY OUTLAWS - the new act featuring JANI LANE (ex-WARRANT) on vocals, Keri Kelli on guitar, Bobby Blotzer (RATT) on drums and Robbie Crane (ex-RATT, VINCE NEIL, ADLER'S APPETITE) on bass], when's the album coming out?
A: "This is something Jani Lane, Bobby Blotzer, Robbie Crane and I did during my breaks from the Coop summer tour. Funny I was just think about how fast we cut the CD just yesterday. We tracked the 10 tunes in like 10 days... drums, all guitars, vox... everything. Andy Johns mixed it in like 5. I think it really kept it sounding fresh and not overworked and re-worked as some songs and projects tend to get. I realistically think the CD will come out sometime the second quarter of next year, April or May 2007."
Q: Anything you want to plug?
