Planners will soon have to decide whether or not the JIMI HENDRIX statue outside Dimbola Lodge, Freshwater, can stay.

Managers of the attraction have advertised its planning application today (Friday, November 24th) to retain the bronze statue, its hardstanding and steps, which were unveiled in June.

In September Dimbola heard from the IW Council that it would have to apply for permission to retain the statue, even though initial assessments by the IW Council indicated it would be allowed to remain.

If councillors vote against retaining the statue, erected as a tribute to Hendrix's performance at the 1970 Afton festival, it will have to be removed.

John Holsburt, administrator at Dimbola, said he hoped the situation would be resolved before Christmas.

He said: "It is difficult to speculate as to what the planners will decide but I am an eternal optimist.

"We have outlined the benefits the statue has had on the museum.

"It has brought many extra people to the museum and thus more revenue and it has given us some badly-needed publicity.

"It has been of tremendous benefit.

"It would be a tragedy if he was to go. I don't want him to go anywhere."
