German goth culture magazine Orkus recently caught up with BORKNAGAR founder Øystein G. Brun to discuss the band's new album, Origin. The following is a brief excerpt from the interview:

Brun: "Origin is a title that perfectly captures the essence and roots of the band. If you look at the band's development, our roots are clearly folk, even if our first album was firmly grounded in really raw, quick black metal. But if you take away all the distorted guitars and screaming from our debut album, you’ll discover that even our earlier songs have a really acoustic element. This deeply in-ground feeling, this mood woven into the music is what makes Borknagar who we are. Everything started with my acoustic guitar, so to speak, and I wanted to transfer that original feeling onto every Borknagar record. Origin is the pure essence of that feeling. Those acoustic elements have been so important to me with Borknagar since the beginning, and although we mainly played and play black metal, I always thought that our music effuses something deeply earthy and acoustic. Of course, it’s something to do with the fact that since starting Borknagar I always compose on an acoustic guitar and therefore the music sounds much more organic, but this time I wanted to completely realise myself acoustically."

The complete story will be available in the upcoming English language edition of Orkus Magazine. A street date for the issue will be revealed soon.
