VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) has issued the following studio update: "Hey, just wanted to let everybody know we (VR) are almost done with basic trax. Everything is moving along quite nicely; we should be releasing this CD in May if everything goes the way its supposed to. Anyway, will keep you posted, Merry X-mas!!!"

In a recent interview with AOL Music, drummer Matt Sorum says that with the help of producer Brendan O'Brien (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, PEARL JAM), the record will have a more consistent sound.

"We had a lot of songs that kind of went away, and now we've really homed in on, like, 20 great songs," he says. "Now it's more a cohesive rock 'n' roll album. It's probably going to be more stripped-down than the last album."

While Sorum says Velvet Revolver are still deciding which tunes to record, to be winnowed down to a final 12 for the album, there are a couple of songs he's already looking forward to working on.

"We've got a song called 'Queen For A Day' that's awesome," he says. "We have a great ballad called 'The Last Fight,'" which he describes as having a "Beatlesque vibe."
