BW&BK; recently hooked up with Toronto based hip-hop act DEAD CELEBRITY STATUS to discuss the group's debut album, Blood Music, which features guest appearances by THE PANIC CHANNEL/ex-JANE'S ADDICTION members Dave Navarro (guitars) and Steven Perkins (drums), Bif Naked, and R&B; vocalist Joss Stone. The following is a brief excerpt from the interview:
"It was a different story for each one," says co-frontman/emcee Bobby of how the Dead Celebs managed to bring these artists in. "Bif Naked, we've been friends with her for quiet a while. We toured with her in Canada when we (Bobby and partner Yas) were in Project Wyze, and when we did the track ('In This Day & Age') we had her in mind for singing the chorus. With Dave Navarro and Steve Perkins, we recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Danny Saber, and what's great about that sudio is that you have a lot of artists coming in and out. We just connected and bonded with Dave and Steve watching basketball playoffs, so we actually became friends first. Dave heard our music and tripped, and we told him that if he liked it ('We Fall, We Fall') he could rock on it. We had an idea for a bridge and he stepped up, laid down the track and that was it. Dave did three takes and we took the first one. I was honoured to work those guys.""With Joss, we met her at a show in Toronto. I'm a huge fan of Joss Stone, and from a talent perspective she's the future of R&B; music. She's incredible. She heard the (Project Wyze) track 'Erica', and the funny thing is we were ready to put the song to bed, but when Joss Stone says she wants to sing on a track you don't say no (laughs). So, she brought it to life one more time. I wanted her on the song because I like her style and she really put her touch on it."
"It's always great to get respect from your peers," Bobby adds. "The amazing thing is that in this day and age you have to pay other artists a lot of money to be on a record, but we didn't pay a cent. Not a penny. It was really done out of love of music, which is almost impossible to find nowadays."
