January 5, 2007, 17 years ago
On March 6th, Relapse Records will release Open Fire, the new album from ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY.
Based in Richmond, Virginia since 1996 and fueled by a desire to play dirty, kick ass rock and roll; ATP honed their skills and began assaulting the local touring circuit. Alabama Thunderpussy took to the road and watched their fanbase grow as they established cred in every city across America. The band has been touring since 1998 in America and in 1999 embarked on their first tour of Europe alongside HIGH ON FIRE where they were fueled by 28 shows in 29 days and their consumption over 50 bottles of whiskey!
ATP hit Canada, Scandanavia, Iceland and even the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany in 2004. Gaining recognition from touring with High On Fire, MASTODON, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, CROWBAR, GWAR, ALL THAT REMAINS, FU MANCHU, BURNT BY THE SUN, SIXTY WATT SAMAN, among others Alabama Thunderpussy now prepare for the March 6th release of Open Fire as well as
a full US tour in spring 2007.
Armed with a new singer, Kyle Thomas... the smokin' pipes that once fronted EXHORDER and FLOODGATE; Thomas joined the 'PUSSY during the summer of 2006, right when the band was piecing together riffs and beats for their next record. With the confidence that came from the addition of Thomas, those riffs and beats quickly became ravaging hard-rock songs with a tip-of-the-hat to classic metal songs of yore. Thomas added his vocals with a skill and range not heard in prior metal bands and ATP's sixth full-length record was born, ready and aimed to showcase the band's growth and power. Taking no hostages, it's time for Open Fire. Look out for the band on tour Spring 2007!
Band drummer Bryan Cox states, "We worked harder on this record than on anything we've ever done and grew a ton as a band in the process of doing so; including hooking up with Kyle (Thomas), who is absolutely the best vocalist I've ever worked with. We had a "no bullshit" policy in mind when we started writing Open Fire and I think it shows. It's straight forward, honest and mean, and that's what we were going for from the start. I'm very excited about it!"
