BW&BK Exclusive: New ELIS Vocalist SANDRA SCHLERET - "I'm Not A Substitute For Sabine; She Can Never Be Replaced"
January 11, 2007, 17 years ago
BW&BK; recently hooked up with new ELIS vocalist Sandra Schleret, who was asked to join the band at the end of December. Original vocalist Sabine Dünser passed away in July 2006 following a cerebral hemmorhage shortly after the recordings for Elis' new album, Griefshire, were completed:
“It was definitely a strange feeling when I first time was on the way to Switzerland,” Schleret says of the audition process. “It was easy to imagine that it must be very hard for the guys to have somebody else singing Sabine’s lines. But when I talked to them first time on the phone they told me some things that convinced me it was the right decision to audition. I was really happy to hear that they didn’t want to substitute Sabine. They wanted a new singer with her own personality so they could start a new chapter. I can’t imagine that Sabine would have wanted the others to stop Elis. In my eyes she lives through her words and lines and she will always be in our hearts. For me it's important to immediately make clear that I’m not a substitute for Sabine; she can never be replaced. We’re opening a new chapter with Elis, but it’s based on Sabine’s legacy and keeping her in loving memory. It’s a totally new experience for me to get to know a person only through her lyrics, her voice and the stories others tell me. Even though I never met her in person I feel a very strong connection to her, and I’m really happy about that because it gives me the feeling that what I’m doing is right.”Watch for the full story in BW&BK; #102.
