hot flashes news the almighty ricky warwick

Back in December 2006, fans of THE ALMIGHTY were invited to submit interview questions to the classic Powertrippin' album and current line-up of Ricky Warwick (vocals/guitars), Pete Friesen (guitars), Floyd London (bass) and Stumpy Monroe (drums). The complete Q&A; session is now online; the following is a brief excerpt:

Q: I remember when you guys called it a day and it was at the Glasgow Barrowlands. Ricky, you said (if I remember right) 'We've just made the best album the band could make and and it was time to call it a day.' My question is, do the guys individually and as a group think this is still the case and does the gigs you have played in the last year give you bug to do another album and tour?

Ricky: Personally, it felt like the right thing to do at the time. But looking back it was obviously wrong. I am really enjoying playing live again. Making an album brings with it a lot of pressure especially for a band like The Almighty with such a loyal passionate fanbase. It would need to be done for all the right reasons and I am not sure if we are there yet. I would like to try and record a couple of new tracks....see how it goes, then go for a full album, if we feel its sounding great."

Q: What's it like playing live together again? Has it re-lit those Almighty fires, or is the pleasure best left to those special occasions?

Stumpy: "I reckon we were all surprised at how much we enjoyed playing together for the first time in nearly 10 years. We got half way through 'Destroyed' in rehearsal and were all grinning at each other like daft school kids. It does feel strangely comforting to look up and see the same three backs I've been seeing for years, like an old pair of trainers (comfy, if a bit smelly)!"

Floyd: "It's a great feeling. A few gigs into the tour, I was getting some on stage confidence back and allowed to relax a little and enjoy it even more. Or is it because we had red stripe on the rider at the start of the tour, then later on we had Stella and Jaegermeister. We seem to be playing better individually too, no idea how that happened!"

Ricky: "To be honest, I knew before we even started rehearsals that it was going to be great and ignite old passions. I have been playing with Stump and Floyd in bands on and off for 27 years and Pete is an amazing guitarist, and I feel like he also has been around for that length of time. The chemistry this line up has for me is untouchable. It is still inspirational as ever every time I step onstage with these guys.

Pete: "It feels great! I think we were all pleasantly surprised, (and relieved), at how enjoyable it was once we started rehearsals for the charity shows. For me, playing those songs with those three guys is a no-brainer; way to much fun to resist."
