Dutch act EPICA have issued the following announcement:
"On Saturday, July 7th, Mark Jansen, guitarist of Epica, will ride La Marmotte for the benefit of the World Wide Fund For Nature. The Marmotte is a French one-day cycle marathon of 174 km. This marathon is one of the most renowned among the fanatic cyclists. This competitive journey can be compared to a heavy tour leg in the Alps. The ride involves four mountain passes, of which three are considered hors category (toughest mountains) in the Tour de France."Jansen, meanwhile, has issued the following statement:
"The marathon will involve the next mountains: Col de la Croix de Fer, col du Télégraphe, col du Galibier and last but not least, l’Alpe de l’Huez. For a detailed (route) description of these mountains and to read about the experience of another cyclist you can click here . You can find some background information about this specific WWF campaign that I support over here .On the Epica forum I will do a vast report concerning my preparation and training sessions.
Anyone can sponsor me for this event by filling in a certain amount of money per kilometer on the inscription form. All profits from this event will go to the WWF. My travel and accommodation expenses will be taken care of by myself.
I am really looking forward to this and I hope that lots of people will support this campaign."
Greets, Mark
