FOR RUIN - "The Debut Album Is Done"
April 29, 2007, 17 years ago
Ireland's FOR RUIN has issed the following blog:
"Well that's it - the debut album is done! Recorded and mixed (more or less) in a month - we tracked the drums over three days in a freezing cold period over the 17th-19th of March at Secret Garden Studios outside Cork; Barry recorded 15 songs worth of drum tracks and did some rough processing of the drum tracks before they were then handed over to John for the remaining recording sessions which were to be carried out at his studio on the other side of Cork.Drew played his guitar parts over a few nights and played a storm, some really nice stuff in there.
Barry ("the Boy") played some cool bass through a great-sounding valve channel and got all his stuff down in one night, perfection at its best.
John put down his guitar tracks, leads and fills over a few nights and finished off with three days of vocals some time around the start of April.
We spent two weeks mixing and tweaking things to get them just about right - everyone gave some input on the mix and the result is now in the bag. We've listened to a few mixes of each track to get it to the way we want it.
It's a more "human" sounding set of tracks than the demos, (the Shade and Obsidian demos used a mixture of played and programmed sampled drums) and sounds better and far more live than ever before. The performances are great and the recording is not over produced - no keyboards or acoustic guitars to be heard anywhere, with everything finding its own space in the mix.
We were working on the cover art and photos while the mixing was going on and the entire package is starting to come together and looks great. Watch out for some audio and artwork samples here soon!
