AZ Central.com has issued the following report from Michael Ferraresi:
ALICE COOPER's non-profit foundation hosted nearly 250 golfers Monday at Talking Stick Golf Club as part of its 11th-annual celebrity golf tournament.
Proceeds of this year's event will help build the planned, 20,000 square-foot teen center called "The Rock." Cooper and others with his faith-based Solid Rock Foundation envision the Rock as a multi-use facility where teens can find a sanctuary surrounded by music, sports and education.
Cooper, 59, and foundation co-founder Chuck Savale, could break ground on the $3 million facility - set to be built on the campus of Grand Canyon University - as early as this summer.
"It's excited to see (the Rock) actually coming into fruition," said Justin Ahrens, a design consultant who works with Cooper."Raising money for an organization is one thing," Ahrens said. "But actually having something tangible to aim for is great."
Ahrens and others from his company, Rule 29, golfed Monday with GREEN DAY drummer Tre Cool.
Singer PAT BOONE and former NFL player J.D. Hill were also among the celebrities who golfed through high winds at Talking Stick, which is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
Cool, who traveled from Green Day's home in the San Francisco Bay Area to golf Monday, said the wind did not bother him.
"We love it, it makes this interesting," he said.
Shortly before the shotgun start of the tournament, Cooper also joked about the high winds, addressing the golfers with his trademark humor.
"I'm sure for many of you, the best wood in your bag is the pencil," he said.
