ELIS - One Year Later
July 8, 2007, 17 years ago
July 8th marked one year since the death of original ELIS vocalist Sabine Dünser, who suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on July 7th, 2006 during rehearsal and passed away the following day in hospital. She was 29 years old. Rather than comment on the occasion, the band has simply posted the picture of Dünser on the left online.
Elis' latest album, Griefshire, is a concept album based on a story written by original Elis vocalist Sabine Dünser, The concept outline is available here.
New Elis vocalist Sandra Schleret commented on taking Sabine's place in an interview with BW&BK; back in January:
"I can’t imagine that Sabine would have wanted the others to stop Elis. In my eyes she lives through her words and lines and she will always be in our hearts. For me it's important to immediately make clear that I’m not a substitute for Sabine; she can never be replaced. We’re opening a new chapter with Elis, but it’s based on Sabine’s legacy and keeping her in loving memory. It’s a totally new experience for me to get to know a person only through her lyrics, her voice and the stories others tell me. Even though I never met her in person I feel a very strong connection to her, and I’m really happy about that because it gives me the feeling that what I’m doing is right.”
The full story appears in BW&BK; #102.
