Mark Slaughter remembers how popular “hair bands” were back in the late 1980s. His band, simply called SLAUGHTER, carried the genre’s momentum into a new decade with its debut release, Stick It To Ya, in 1990.
That album featured hits such as 'Up All Night' and 'Fly To The Angels'. It became a platinum-seller and even earned an American Music Award.
But music tastes changed, and many of those hair bands fell by the wayside. Slaughter is one of the few that remain touring today.
“There’s not too many of us left from that genre,” Mark Slaughter said in a recent phone interview. “But we’re still writing and recording our own music.”Slaughter is on tour now as the opening act for QUIET RIOT and VINCE NEIL, who’s best known as the lead singer of MÖTLEY CRÜE. The trio of acts perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Slaughter isn’t afraid to admit it, either: He never thought his band’s music would still be popular nearly 20 years later.
“You always hope your music will have an impact on people, and for our songs to still be popular today is such a real blessing,” the singer said. “I like to think of music as an hour glass of life. You flip it over and just relive the memories as they go by again.”Read more here.
