Pop Music Critic Ross Raihala, of the Pioneer Press newspaper, asked some of performers from this year's Minnesota State Fair to share their first ever concert stories.

Vivian Campbell, Def Leppard: "Belfast in the 1970s was not a very friendly town. It was in the midst of sectarian strife the locals referred to as the 'troubles'. As such, we weren't exactly the favorite destination of international touring bands. But we could rely on our own, and one of our own who made good was RORY GALLAGHER.

Rory made a point to come home and play at Ulster Hall every Christmas, and it was there, in 1974, that I attended my very first concert. I was 12 years old and otherwise wouldn't have been aware of album acts as such. But thanks to my cousin Richard, who is several years my senior and who loaned me many of his precious LPs, I was at last initiated into the visceral world of live rock 'n' roll.

As good as listening to the albums was, the live experience was an epiphany that opened up a whole other dimension that sent tingles up and down my spine.

I still feel the same way every time Def Leppard takes the stage."
