Carmine Appice is the recipient of yet another notable award, this time the KOSA Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to the rock drumming legend at the KOSA Drum Festival, where he was teaching and performing. Appice, renowned as the originator of Rock drumming in its many forms – hard rock, heavy rock, metal, speed metal, and virtually any style where power prevails – has more than made his mark in musical history, with credits including seminal psych/prog band THE VANILLA FUDGE, blues and boogie monsters CACTUS, power trio BECK, BOGERT & APPICE, OZZY OSBOURNE, BLUE MURDER, KGB, and ROD STEWART. A well-rounded musician, Appice also co-wrote Stewart's classic hits 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy' and 'Young Turks'. His 'Realistic Rock' books and DVDs are global best sellers, and his clinics attract capacity crowds.

Sabian senior marketing manager Wayne Blanchard: “Carmine Appice is a giant among giants. He not only created Rock drumming and introduced such concepts as bigger drum sizes, Chinese cymbals, gongs, electronics, and many other things that have become commonplace in contemporary drumming, he has inspired drummers ranging from John Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN) and Bill Ward (BLACK SABBATH) to every young drummer playing rock today… though they may not realize that he is the very root of their style. His name was also on the first Signature series cymbal introduced by Sabian.”

Taking the stage to a standing ovation, Appice would later comment: “This award was an real surprise.”

Receiving the award culminated a week that saw Appice play Radio City Music Hall with the Vanilla Fudge, where he received standing ovations for his drum solo and vocal performance of CURTIS MAYFIELD's 'People Get Ready'.

“What an amazing week,” he concluded. “I'm a happy dude!”
