As reported earlier today, SATYRICON leader Satyr is currently "holed up in the Norwegian mountains" writing new material for the band's full-length follow-up to 2006's triumphant Now, Diabolical, due out in late 2008 via their recently "extended partnership" with Roadrunner Records.

“The album is scheduled for September next year," the black metal icon tells BW&BK.; "That’s what we’re aiming for. We’re going to put out, well, I don’t know if it’s going to be a DVD or an EP with multimedia content, but we’re gonna release this thing in spring next year and it’s gonna have a song from the album and video material and some live footage, recordings from the Now, Diabolical touring cycle. It’s a combination of wanting everyone to know that Satyricon is back with a new record coming soon, but it’s not just a teaser product. It’s also a direct consequence of the fact that we have many great recordings from the tour and it would be an absolute shame for them just to lie around in our archives with nothing happening to them. There’s no one recording that represents to me a live DVD or an album, but what about that song from that show filmed by MTV in France, you know? That was fucking killer. What about those four songs from the gig we did in Oslo, Norway with the brass guys from the symphony orchestra? Those were killer too. So it’s things like that, that we want to combine with some new stuff. It’ll probably be some kind of multi-media release that comes out before the summer and the album will follow after the summer. I’ve been working by myself for the most part, but I’ve also had great fun working with Snorre from THORNS, some collaborating on song arrangements, and that’s been really good. I’m starting to rehearse the new stuff that I’ve finished with Frost, so it’s all going really good. This time we’ll have a chance to make demos that are pretty listenable to people, so I don’t have to explain everything to anyone. I can play these to friends of mine, people in other bands. We’re about to make a record that’s gonna be one of those records…it’s rare that you get records these days that move you in the same way that those black metal records in the early ‘90s did. My feeling is that we’re making one of those now.”
