German goth culture magazine Orkus recently caught up with ex-NIGHTWISH vocalist Tarja Turnunen to discuss her new album, My Winter Storm. BW&BK; has been provided with the following excerpt from the story that appears in the English language version of the publication, due out in November / December:

On songwriting: "I’m very proud of myself for being so open. Lyrics are a very personal thing, and this process was like a rebirth for me. Almost the entire album is about inner freedom. Everybody should make sure to keep his independence. We’re all under extreme pressure and can hardly escape from it, but every person should have moments of peace and freedom for him or herself."

On the single 'I Walk Alone': "Yes, I know what people will say about this. The song offers definitely a clear statement but it’s about something else. I also took the album title from the lyrics: My winter storm – holding me awake – it's never gone. Of course the winter storm can be interpreted as something devastating but for me it has a completely different meaning. These lines are very personal: in my own winter storm I can see all the people around me, my fans, friends and family, who have always stood by my side. All this energy, the power behind this metaphor was very impressive."
