Former DEEP PURPLE Keyboardist At Durham University; Photos Available
October 23, 2007, 17 years ago
As previously reported, Durham Cathedral was packed with more than 1,000 music fans on October 20th for the premiere of the Durham Concerto, by Jon Lord, former DEEP PURPLE keyboard legend. The concerto was commissioned to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Durham University. To view photos of the event head here.
According to Sunderlandecho.com, Lord, 65, is perhaps best known for his four- or five-minute rock songs, but he has always written longer pieces as well. It was his desire to concentrate on the orchestral works which led him to leave Deep Purple in 2002.
"By then I was beginning to realise that I couldn't run both things in parallel," he said. "That is, stay in Deep Purple and write the kind of music that was in my heart. It was one of the toughest decisions of my life to leave the band I had founded and loved for nearly 25 years."(Thanks Deep-purple.net)
